Interview with Rachel and Janelle

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Rachel: My sentencing was for 5months.
Janelle: 4 months

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Rachel: After my sentencing i did spend time in the holding cell before being transported to ACCF. It was very cold and distant. The chairs and bench you are allowed to sit on are very hard and uncomfortable.
Janelle: No i went to the county and put on the tier.

The Albany County Jail, located in Albany, New York, is one of the largest correctional facilities in New York. It can house over 1,000 inmates, which can be an intimidating prospect for someone that is headed there that hasn't ever been before, or for the families of those that are currently (or are soon to be) incarcerated.

Being prepared before heading to jail can help smooth the transition from life on the outside to life inside jail. Whether you're sentenced to a week or a year, being armed with the knowlege of what to expect can help you through your sentence.

If you have a family member that is locked up and you're looking for information about what an incarcerated family member might be going through, you've come to the right place. We have interviews with former inmates that have been there and done that. We have information about the sentencing process, inmates, meals, and more. Feel free to browse the site, and if you have more questions, ask it on our Question and Answer section.

If you're a former inmate, we'd love to hear from you. Feel free to fill out the interview form to tell your story about life in the Albany County Jail.
